Coconut Creek is a suburban city in Broward County, Florida. Coconut Creek has an area of 12 square miles, over 44,000 residents and 1,500 businesses. Housing is primarily single-family homes, condominiums, and townhouses inside planned and landscaped communities. The city took its name from the coconut trees that were planted in the area by early developers. Coconut Creek is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is home to nearly 6 million people. Much of the city is a planned community with a unique environmental consciousness touting an abundance of trees, waterways, landscaped roads, scenic parks and gardens mixed throughout the neighborhoods. The nature center also includes a butterfly bridge, a 20-foot observation platform, and a beautiful sensory garden and sculptures.
In terms of the Judiciary, Coconut Creek is part of the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida. Most complex and serious civil and criminal cases in Broward County are handled at the Main Judicial Complex, which is located at 201 S.E. 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Most traffic infractions that occur in Coconut Creek are typically heard at this Courthouse as well. Jury Trials are not held at the Regional Courthouse. If a jury trial is demanded, then the case is moved to the Main Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
