Dania Beach is a city located in Broward County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was approximately 30,000. It is part of the South Florida metropolitan area, which was home to nearly 6 million people at the 2010 census. Dania Beach is the location of one of the largest jai alai frontons in the United States, Dania Jai-Alai. It was the first official city/municipality to be incorporated into Broward County dating back to the 1880s. Originally starting as a settlement called Modello, it was incorporated in November 1904. Almost all of the 35 residents were of Danish ancestry, and they changed the name of the town to Dania. The Main Broward County Judicial Center is the “Main” or “Downtown” Courthouse, located at 201 S.E. 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Most complex and serious civil and criminal cases in Broward County are handled at this Main Judicial Complex. All “circuit” civil matters as well as all felonies are handled at this location. In addition, there are 3 Regional or Satellite Courthouses; The North Regional Courthouse at 1600 West Hillsboro, Blvd., Deerfield Beach, Florida 33442, the South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, Florida 33021, and the West Regional Courthouse at 100 North Pine Island Road, Plantation, Florida 33324. Many misdemeanors (depending on where they occurred) and some “county” civil cases are heard at the regional courthouses. Most traffic infractions and crimes are often heard at these courthouses as well. Jury Trials are not held at the satellite courthouses. If a jury trial is demanded, then the case is moved to the Main Courthouse, which accommodates jury trials.
