Hallandale Beach is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The city is named after Luther Halland, a worker for Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railroad. As of the 2010 census, the population was just over 37 thousand. It is part of the South Florida metropolitan area.The city is best known as the home of Mardi Gras Casinogreyhound racing track, which hosts the World Classic, and the new Gulfstream Park which boasts Horse Racing, upscale restaurants, and multiple nightclubs. Hallandale Park also has a sizable financial district, with offices for a number of banks and brokerage houses. Sometimes referred to in jest as the “southernmost Canadian city,” Hallandale Beach has been a popular vacation destination for decades, and many of the tourists come from Quebec and the Northeastern United States; a significant number of these tourists eventually retire to the area.Hallandale was incorporated in 1927. By that time, a thriving community of 1,500 residents, with electricity and street lights, was in place. In 1947, Hallandale was reincorporated as a city, allowing it to expand its borders through annexation of nearby unincorporated land. In August 1999, the city officially changed its name to Hallandale Beach.Hurricane Katrina first made landfall between Hallandale and Aventura, Florida.

The Main Broward County Judicial Center is the “Main” or “Downtown” Courthouse, located at 201 S.E. 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Most complex and serious civil and criminal cases in Broward County are handled at this Main Judicial Complex. All “circuit” civil matters as well as all felonies are handled at this location. In addition, there are 3 Regional or Satellite Courthouses; The North Regional Courthouse at 1600 West Hillsboro, Blvd., Deerfield Beach, Florida 33442, the South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, Florida 33021, and the West Regional Courthouse at 100 North Pine Island Road, Plantation, Florida 33324. Many misdemeanors (depending on where they occurred) and some “county” civil cases are heard at the regional courthouses. Most traffic infractions and crimes are often heard at these courthouses as well. Jury Trials are not held at the satellite courthouses. If a jury trial is demanded, then the case is moved to the Main Courthouse, which accommodates jury trials.
