Plantation is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was nearly 85,000. Plantation is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area.The city’s name comes from the prior owner of the land, the Everglades Plantation Company. The Main Broward County Judicial Center is the “Main” or “Downtown” Courthouse, located at 201 S.E. 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. Most complex and serious civil and criminal cases in Broward County are handled at this Main Judicial Complex. All “circuit” civil matters as well as all felonies are handled at this location. In addition, there are 3 Regional or Satellite Courthouses; The North Regional Courthouse at 1600 West Hillsboro, Blvd., Deerfield Beach, Florida 33442, the South Regional Courthouse at 3550 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, Florida 33021, and the West Regional Courthouse at 100 North Pine Island Road, Plantation, Florida 33324. Many misdemeanors (depending on where they occurred) and some “county” civil cases are heard at the regional courthouses. Most traffic infractions and crimes are often heard at these courthouses as well. Jury Trials are not held at the satellite courthouses. If a jury trial is demanded, then the case is moved to the Main Courthouse, which accommodates jury trials.
